After the great Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli is India’s second-highest run-scorer in international cricket.
Just 64 runs separate Virat Kohli from reaching the milestone of 250000 runs in international cricket. When the former captain of India faces Australia in the opening test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which begins on Thursday, he may pull off the feat in Nagpur.
Even though Kohli has been in excellent form for India over the previous few months, his red-ball performance fell short of expectations. Since finding his form again in September of last year, Kohli has participated in two Tests against Bangladesh without scoring even a single fifty or higher.
The right-hander has always enjoyed hunting down runs against Australia, and the BGT 2023 offers him the ideal chance to do so in the game’s longest format.
Behind Jacques Kallis (25534), Mahela Jayawardene (25937), Ricky Ponting (27483), Kumar Sangakkara (28016), and leader Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli is now in sixth position with 24936 runs in international cricket (34357).
For Kohli, Nagpur has been a fruitful hunting ground as the elegant batsman amassed 354 runs in three games here. He has two centuries to his belt, including a double century against Sri Lanka in 2017.
