FOOD VARIETY

FOOD

Food is the part that we eat that provides nourishment to our bodies. Rice, chapati, curry, fruits, vegetables, cheese, bread, milk, curd, butter, and so on are examples of foods.

INGREDIENTS

Ingredients are the components or materials needed to prepare a food item. Different types of vegetables and spices, for example, are ingredients in sambar.

FOOD MATERIALS AND SOURCES

FOOD ITEMS

Every day, we consume a variety of foods. Each of these dishes necessitates the use of specific ingredients. Chicken curry, for example, is prepared with chicken, spices, oil/ghee, and water.

FOOD SOURCES

A food item’s ingredients can come from either plants or animals. Thus, there are plant-based and animal-based products. For instance, we obtain rice grains from rice plants. Chicken is an animal-based food source. Salt and water constitute the third category.

Part of Plants and Animal Products as Food

PLANT PRODUCTS

Plant products are the foods that we obtain from plants. For instance, ginger is a plant whose root we use in cooking.

ANIMAL PRODUCTS

Animal products are foods derived from animals. For example, milk, butter, chicken, meat, and honey.

What Do Animals Eat?

FOOD HABITS

Food habits refer to the way in which living organisms eat or the foods they choose. For instance, a rabbit consumes grass or plant-based food.

Herbivores

Herbivores are animals that eat plants. For example, a cow or a goat.

Carnivores

Carnivores are animals that feed on other animals. For example, lion, tiger, etc.
